The Vision Behind the Tagore Society Library's Digital Transformation

The idea to digitize the Tagore Society Library and establish a comprehensive website with an Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) was born in November 2020. This vision was championed by Mr. Ashish Chowdhury, the General Secretary of Tagore Society, during a pivotal meeting with Mr. Sumantra Chowdhury, Chairman, Library and Literary Committee and the newly appointed Librarian, Ms. Nabanita Mukherjee. Amidst the global shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for a resilient and accessible digital library became increasingly clear.

The journey began with the meticulous task of cataloging the library's extensive collection, followed by the implementation of a barcode system to streamline book circulation for both members and students. As the project advanced, the need for specialized technical support became apparent, leading to the engagement of Avior Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for ongoing technical assistance. This digital transformation not only modernizes the library's operations but also significantly enhances access to its resources, making it easier for the community to explore and utilize the vast collection from anywhere.

A special mention must be made of Mr. Jaydeep Ghosh, whose expertise was invaluable to this project. At the request of the General Secretary, Mr. Ghosh played a crucial role in understanding and negotiating the technical terms with Avior Technologies Pvt. Ltd. His guidance ensured a smooth and efficient development process, making the complexities of digitization appear effortless. His unwavering support has been a cornerstone of the library's successful transition into the digital age.
